When I need to make frosting, this is the one that I usually make. It is fairly simple and tastes great every time. I got it from Betty Crocker's New Cookbook.
Vanilla Buttercream Frosting
3 cups powdered sugar
1/3 cup stick margarine or butter, softened (I always use butter)
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1 to 2 tablespoons milk
Mix powdered sugar and margarine in medium bowl. Stir in vanilla and milk. Beat until smooth and spreadable.
Frosts one 13 x 9-inch cake or fills and frosts one 8- or 9-inch two layer cake. It makes around 2 cups of frosting.
